Governance Cost: Breakdown of CJN, other Justices’ new salary, allowances

Following a request by the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the House of Representatives, on Wednesday, passed the bill for upward review of salaries, allowances and fringe benefits for Judicial Office Holders across the country through Third Reading.

Here is a breakdown of the new salary structure for judicial officers across all levels. 

  • Chief Justice of Nigeria 

Annual basic salary: N13,462,617.95 (N1,121,884.83 monthly )

Annual regular allowances: N51,157,948.21 (N4,263,162.35 monthly)

Non-regular allowances= N6,731,308.98

Leave Allowance (when applicable)= N142,500 

Duty Tour Allowance (estacode per night)= $2,000 

Severance gratuity= N80,775,707.70 

Motor vehicle loan (to be repaid)= N53,850,471.80 

Professional Development Assistant is to be paid from the NJC pool.

The CJN’s Accommodation, security, motor vehicle fuelling and maintenance, domestic staff and furniture are to be provided (TDP).

  • Other Justices of the Supreme Court 

Annual basic salary = N9,913,394.22  (N826,116.19 monthly salary)

Annual regular allowances = N50,558,310.52 (N4,213,192.54 monthly)

Non-regular allowances (Rent annually) = N9,913,394.22 

Leave Allowance (when applicable)=  N100,000 

Duty Tour Allowance (Estacode per night) = $1,300 

Severance gratuity = N29,740,182.66 

Furniture Allowance, motor vehicle loan = N39,653,576.88 (to be repaid)

Professional Development Assistant is to be paid from the NJC pool.

Meanwhile, utilities and security are to be provided (TDP).

Appeal Court Justices 

  • President of the Court of Appeal

Annual basic salary = N9,913,394.22 (N826,116.19 monthly)

Annual regular allowances = N52,540,989.37 (N4,478,415.78 monthly) 

Non-regular allowances(Rent annually): N9,913,394.22 

Leave Allowance (when applicable)=  N4,956,697.11 

Duty Tour Allowance (per night)= N100,000 

Estacode (per night)= $1,300 

Severance gratuity N29,740,182.66 

Furniture Allowance, motor vehicle loan = N39,653,576.88 (to be repaid)Professional Development Assistant is to be paid from the NJC pool.

Meanwhile, utilities and security are to be provided (TDP).

  • Other Appeal Court Justices 

Annual basic salary = N7,985,711.58 (N665,475.97 monthly)

Annual regular allowances = N44,719,984.85 (N3,726,665.40 monthly)

Non-regular allowancesRent (annually) = N7,985,711.58 

Leave Allowance (when applicable)= N3,992,855.79 

Duty Tour Allowance (per night)= N85,500 

Estacode (per night)= $1,100

Severance gratuity= N23,957,134.74 

Furniture Allowance and motor vehicle loan (to be repaid)= N31,942,846.32

Professional Development Assistant is to be paid from the NJC pool.

Meanwhile, utilities and security are to be provided (TDP).

  • Federal High Court Judges

Chief Judge of the Federal High Court;  President of the National Industrial Court; Chief Judge FCT High Court, Grand Khadi FCT Sharia Court of Appeal; Resident FCT Customary Court of Appeal; Chief Judge State High Court; Grand Kadi State Sharia Court of Appeal; President State Customary Court of Appeal are all entitled to the same salaries, allowances and fringe benefits.

Annual basic salary= N7,985,711.58( N665,475.97 monthly salary)

Annual regular allowances = N42,324,271.37 (N3,527,022.61 monthly)

Non-regular allowances = N7,985,711.58 

Leave Allowance (when applicable)= N3,992,855.79 

Duty Tour Allowance=  N85,500 

Estacode (per night)=  $1,100  

Severance gratuity =N23,957,134.74 

Furniture Allowance and motor vehicle loan (to be repaid) = N31,942,846.32 

Professional Development Assistant is to be paid from the NJC pool.

Meanwhile, utilities and security are to be provided (TDP).

  • Other Federal High Court Judges

Judges of the Federal High Court; National Industrial Court;  FCT High Court; FCT Customary Court of Appeal;  State High Court; State Customary Court of Appeal; Kadis FCT Sharia Court of Appeal; Kadis State Sharia Court of Appeal are entitled to the same salaries, allowances and fringe benefits.

Annual basic salary: N7,222,569.48 (N601,880.79 monthly).

Annual regular allowances: N36,835,104.35 ( N3,069,592.03 monthly)

Non-regular allowances: N7,222,569.48 for Rent (annually); 

Leave Allowance (when applicable)= N3,611,284.74, 

Duty Tour Allowance (per night)= N57,000 

Estacode (per night)= $600 

Severance gratuity = N21,677,708.44

Furniture Allowance and motor vehicle loan (to be repaid) =  N28,890,277.92

Professional Development Assistant is to be paid from the NJC pool.
