In response to a diphtheria outbreak affecting parts of Plateau State, the state government has announced the temporary closure of all public and private schools, effective Monday.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Nicholas Ba’amlong, recently confirmed that 24 fatalities and 142 infections have been reported in the Jos North local government area.
In a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Honourable Joyce Ramnap, the closure is a precautionary measure to control the spread of diphtheria, particularly in Jos North, Wase, Jos South, and Bassa.
All schools that have already resumed academic activities must close starting Monday, September 7, and will remain closed until further notice.

The state government urges school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents, and guardians to comply fully with this directive and ensure that students remain safely at home during this period. This measure is vital to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
