Ebony State Governor Francis Nwifuru has approved a monthly stipend of ₦30,000 for each National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in the state.
The approval was announced during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Chidiebere Onyia, said the state government remained committed to the welfare, security and development of corps members posted to Ebonyi.
Onyia described the state as peaceful, welcoming and filled with opportunities, urging the corps members to use their service year to develop themselves, build relationships across different cultures and make positive contributions to their host communities.
”This administration remains committed to supporting your growth, welfare, and safety,” Onyia stated on Friday, encouraging the corps members to contribute meaningfully to their primary assignments across the state.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Malgwi Maidariya, thanked the state government for its continued support for the scheme and its efforts towards youth development.
However, Maidariya called for additional government intervention to improve infrastructure at the orientation camp located at Old MacGregor College, Afikpo.

She identified the renovation and modernisation of the central kitchen, construction of a standard dining hall and the establishment of a fully equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) centre as some of the major areas requiring attention.
She also appealed for the renovation of the camp’s perimeter fence and further improvements to facilities within the multipurpose hall.
Maidariya urged the newly deployed corps members to remain disciplined, participate actively in camp activities and uphold the NYSC values of patriotism, integrity and selfless service throughout their service year.
She also commended camp officials, resource personnel and security agencies for their contributions to maintaining order and ensuring the smooth running of the orientation exercise.
The swearing-in ceremony included the administration of the oath of allegiance to the corps members, tactical displays by the Man ‘O’ War unit, traditional performances and an inspection of infrastructure projects within the orientation camp.
