Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has revealed that he gets scared whenever actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele offers him an acting role because of her demanding approach to filmmaking.
The 72-year-old actor made the revelation during an interview on the African A-List podcast, describing Akindele as a perfectionist who can shoot a single scene up to 15 times before she is satisfied.
“Whenever Funke calls me for a job, I am always scared; you can shoot a scene 15 times,” Kosoko disclosed.
He explained that Akindele’s insistence on getting every detail right sometimes requires actors to repeat scenes they have already completed.
According to him, the filmmaker could arrive on set the following day intending to shoot another scene but decide to reshoot an earlier one over seemingly minor details, including the plates used during filming.
“She may come the following day thinking of shooting another scene, but then she will say ‘We have to shoot those scenes again because of the plates they brought,’” he recounted.
Despite admitting that working with Akindele could be exhausting, Kosoko praised her dedication and exceptional work ethic.
“Funke is very hardworking; even if you are a man, you can’t match her energy,” he said.
The veteran actor, who has featured in Akindele’s Jenifa productions, acknowledged that her attention to detail makes working with her particularly demanding.
Akindele is one of Nollywood’s most commercially successful filmmakers, with her productions recording major successes at the Nigerian box office.
