A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Okoi Obono-Obla, has described the Rainbow Coalition spearheaded by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, as a ‘comic relief’.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Obono-Obla said the coalition is not a political party.
He also cast doubts on the feasibility of the proposed opposition coalition. According to him, an opposition coalition behind one candidate in the 2027 election is not legally attainable.
“So I think that the Rainbow Coalition is a comic relief. Yes, because there’s nothing that will come out of it. It’s not a political party that sponsors candidates.
“Nigerian politicians can be dramatic. The opposition’s proposal to unite behind a single candidate is comic relief.
“Neither the Constitution nor the Electoral Act provides for political parties to come together behind one candidate.
“INEC has already cleared the list of candidates, and any changes must go through the commission. What is being proposed is therefore not legally attainable,” he said.
