Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued a 40-year-old man from suspected terrorists, recovered 18 rustled cattle and arrested four suspected drug peddlers in separate operations in Kebbi State.
The operations, conducted on Sunday, October 18, followed a distress call over the invasion of Rambo village in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area by suspected terrorists attempting to kidnap residents and rustle cattle.
The Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
Danja said troops of Sector 2, working alongside local vigilantes, swiftly mobilised to the community after receiving information about the attack.
According to him, the troops engaged the suspected terrorists in a gunfight, forcing them to flee and resulting in the rescue of the victim and recovery of the stolen livestock.
“The decisive intervention by the troops resulted in the successful rescue of a 40-year-old resident, Suleiman Maiyaki Ikara, and the recovery of 18 rustled cattle,” the statement said.
He added that the rescued victim and the recovered cattle were subsequently handed over to the district head of Rambo village for further action.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops of Sector 2, in collaboration with personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, raided suspected drug trafficking locations in Dakin Kowa, Karaye and Gubba communities in Maiyama Local Government Area.
The joint operation led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
Danja said the suspects and the recovered substances had been handed over to the NDLEA command in Maiyama for further investigation and necessary action.
He reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to sustaining military operations against terrorists and other criminal elements across its joint operations area.
“The Joint Task Force remains resolute in sustaining offensive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements across the Joint Operations Area,” he said.
The military spokesman also commended local communities for their continued support and cooperation, urging residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to strengthen ongoing efforts to combat insecurity.
The operations came amid continued security challenges in parts of Kebbi State, where communities have faced attacks, cattle rustling and kidnapping by armed groups.
