Every human being depends on water to survive. You might not even be conscious of this but being alive is entangled with it. According to the United Nations, if people do not have access to clean water, it can lead to rifts between communities and countries. Do you know that more than 3 billion people on earth depend on water that crosses national borders? This was asserted by the UN. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Water for Peace”. This means we must all acknowledge water is not just a resource but a human right, important our body and to all aspects of life.

As human beings, we are made up of about eighty per cent of water. Our organs, tissues and cells use it to function effectively. This is one of the vital reasons water is important and as well, a lifesaver. It has been recommended over the years by doctors and nutritionists that water aids our functionality as human beings. If you do not like taking water that much, you’re at risk of so many things. We’ll try to exhaust the basic importance of water to life and the dangers of not incorporating it enough.

The Importance of Water

Water can save you from any ailment. In fact, it’s the first medication in many hospitals. It is very important to our health — no calories; and it’s a way of managing body weight. Water is also derived from beverages and foods; this is why you should also be mindful of what you combine to eat. Embrace foods with higher water content such as vegetables and fruits. Let’s take a look at some importance:

  1. Water is important to your life because it can help regulate your body temperature; and place you in a more balanced position either during heat or cool environments.
  2. Water is a major contributor to saliva in the mouth. The body is able to produce saliva because of its intake and is also used in breaking foods and keeping your mouth healthy.
  3. Water helps you to sweat, and excrete. Have you never heard of this? It does. Your urination and easy defecation are made possible because of the intake of water.
  4. The efficiency of your kidney depends on how well you drink water. In other words, water helps to prevent kidney stones.
  5. It is through water you gain energy and strength to do things; and carry on with your daily activities.
  6. If you experience constipation all the time, you have a simple solution: endeavour to always take enough water. It helps the bowel when you have enough water in your system.
  7. Water aids digestion. The food you eat is broken down into smaller particles because of water.
  8. Your journey into maintaining body weight or losing it is possible because of water. It helps to control overweight.
  9. Water carries oxygen and nutrients for the body. Blood circulation as well is made possible through the inflow of water.
  10. Water helps to brighten and keep the skin hydrated. You shed more dirt which gives room for a more healthy skin.

If you don’t like taking enough water, this is what happens:

  1. Not taking adequate water to enable proper function of the body makes the body weak. You just realize that you easily get tired; you can’t stand for too long. Moreover, you become more weak to work out.
  2. You can’t be mentally sharp if you don’t drink enough water because it is one of the ways that can keep memory alive. You will constantly be nursing headaches and fatigue.
  3. Not drinking enough water can increase your chance of getting a stroke or prolong your recovery if you have one.
  4. You can end up overeating if you’re confusing thirst with hunger. Sometimes you just need water in addition to what you’ve eaten to keep you full.
  5. If you don’t take water, your metabolism will automatically slow down. You have to remain hydrated to give your body what it needs.
  6. Lack of water can damage your skin — it would increase ageing and wrinkles.
