The Oyo State Executive Council has approved an upward review of the state’s 2026 budget by N210 billion, increasing the fiscal plan from N892.09 billion to N1.10 trillion in a move aimed at accelerating the completion of critical infrastructure and development projects across the state.
The revised budget now stands at N1,102,085,074,480.79, representing a 23.5 per cent increase over the original appropriation of N892,085,074,480.79.
The approval was announced by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, following the Executive Council meeting.
According to the commissioner, the supplementary budget became necessary to accommodate additional funding requests from ministries, departments and agencies responsible for delivering key government projects.
He stated that the adjustment reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring the completion of ongoing projects before the end of Governor Seyi Makinde’s tenure.
“The supplementary budget was necessitated by the need to meet the aspirations of this administration and its determination to ensure that all ongoing projects across the state are completed before the expiration of the current administration,” the commissioner said.
In a separate approval, the Council authorised the release of N8.77 billion for the procurement of teaching and learning materials for primary and junior secondary schools across Oyo State. The intervention forms part of a larger education project valued at N23.01 billion.
Implemented in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and supported by the World Bank, the initiative will provide textbooks and instructional materials in Numeracy, Literacy, Mathematics, English Language and Basic Science to strengthen learning outcomes in public schools.
Government officials, however, said the additional budgetary allocation would support the implementation of strategic projects and programmes across critical sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and economic development.
