The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved N6.765 billion for the construction of new hospital buildings at the General Hospitals in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Awo-Ekiti and Ipao-Ekiti.
Ikogosi-Ekiti is in Ekiti West Local Government Area, Awo-Ekiti is in Irepodun/Ifelodun LGA, while Ipao-Ekiti is in Ikole Local Government Area of the state.
The approval was given at the Council meeting presided over by the state Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Tuesday, with the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, making the decision public in a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday.
According to the statement, N2.255 billion was approved for each of the three hospital projects, which are part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, improve access to quality medical services and advance Universal Health Coverage across the state.
The approved contracts were awarded to Messrs Axial Nigeria Limited for the General Hospital, Ikogosi-Ekiti; Messrs Wals and Funs Nigeria Limited for the General Hospital, Awo-Ekiti; and Messrs Red Soil Limited for the General Hospital, Ipao-Ekiti.
“Each contractor is to execute the project at the approved sum of N2,255,295,870.74,” the Commissioner said.
The projects will involve the construction of a range of critical facilities designed to improve the functionality of the hospitals and create a more conducive environment for patients and healthcare workers.
Among the facilities to be provided are female and male wards, mortuary, maternity and delivery suite, children’s ward, consulting rooms, theatre, laboratory, staff quarters, gate house and a main building/administrative block.
The state government said the projects were awarded through the Selective Procurement Method in accordance with the Ekiti State Public Procurement (Re-enactment) Law No. 4 of 2020.
The three hospital projects are expected to be completed within 10 months.
Olatunbosun said the investment was aimed at expanding and modernising healthcare infrastructure in the state, while improving access to essential medical services for residents of the beneficiary communities and surrounding areas.
He added that the new facilities would also strengthen the capacity of the health system to respond more effectively to the healthcare needs of residents, particularly those in communities served by the three general hospitals.
