…seeks truce in Oyo APC
Yoruba Leaders of Thought (YLT) have commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the August 15, 2026 Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, for conceding defeat to Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The group, led by elder statesman Chief Tajudeen Olusi, said Oyebamiji’s acceptance of the result had helped to douse post-election tension and preserve peace in the state.
YLT also congratulated Adeleke, saying his victory reflected the choice of the Osun electorate, while praising President Bola Tinubu for ensuring that the election was conducted peacefully and transparently.
In a congratulatory letter signed by its National Secretary, Bayo Aina, the group said the outcome demonstrated Adeleke’s acceptance across the state and urged him to use his second term to advance the development of Osun and the Southwest.
The group, however, called on Yoruba politicians to pursue their ambitions within the confines of the law and shun violence.
Meanwhile, YLT has commenced efforts to reconcile aggrieved members of the APC across the Southwest ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group has constituted a fact-finding and reconciliation committee chaired by former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Asimiyu Alarape, to review the state of the APC across the zone and recommend ways of resolving internal disagreements.
At its inaugural meeting with the Southwest APC executive, led by National Vice Chairman, Dr Lateef Ibirogba, the group said a united and formidable APC was essential to achieving its political objectives in 2027.
YLT said it was committed to working with party leaders and stakeholders to strengthen the APC and promote peaceful resolution of disputes across the Southwest.
