Harmful agricultural products with a street value of about N223.54 million seized by the Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service have been handed over to the NAFDAC State Office in Birnin Kebbi by the Area Controller of Customs, Mahmoud Matawale Ibrahim.
Addressing a press conference at the Customs Area Command in Birnin Kebbi, the Controller of Customs, Mahmoud Matawale Ibrahim, stated that the harmful agricultural products include 500 cartons of Rezim Herbicide, 708 cartons of Gramosun, 1,291 cartons of Sun-Paraquat, 1,990 cartons of Gbeledzo, and 1,620 cartons of Gramostrong, with a street value of over N223.54 million.
Additionally, the Command handed over cannabis sativa with a street value of N2.520 million to the NDLEA, as well as 37 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition and 12 live cartridges for pump-action firearms to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).
“I wish to place on records that these items were intercepted and seized at various locations within the Area of Responsibility of the Kebbi Area Command through the diligence, vigilance and commitment of gallant officers and men of the Nigeria Customs.”
“This exercise proves the importance of sustained cooperations between the Nigeria Customs Service, NAFDAC, NDLEA and NCCSALW in ensuring that harmful, in approved, prohibited and control substances as well as illicit arms and ammunitions do not find their ways into the distribution chains.”
“Similarly, the illicit movement and distributions of controlled substances such as cannabis sativa, as well as the unauthorized movement of arms and ammunitions constitute serious concern that require sustained collaborations among law enforcement, regulatory and security agencies.” he stated.
The Controller, therefore, advised importers, distributors, and users of agricultural chemicals to comply with all relevant regulatory requirements and obtain the necessary approvals before importing, distributing, or using such products.
