Baze University, Abuja, has established a university press to strengthen research, academic publishing and knowledge production at the institution.
The establishment of the Baze University Press (BUP) was approved by the university’s Board of Trustees at a meeting chaired by the Founder and Chancellor, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed.
The university said the initiative was part of its commitment to building a 21st-century institution focused on excellence in teaching, research, innovation and global academic engagement.
With the establishment of the press, scholarly works produced by members of the university’s academic community, including books, journals, inaugural lectures, conference proceedings, research monographs, policy papers and technical reports, will be published under the Baze University Press imprint.
According to the university, the press is expected to increase the global visibility of research conducted by its academics and provide a platform for the dissemination of original scholarship.
It added that the initiative would help strengthen the university’s academic reputation, improve the citation and research impact of its publications, and promote the intellectual contributions of its staff and collaborators.
The university said the press would adopt international publishing standards, including rigorous editorial scrutiny and independent peer review, to ensure the quality and integrity of works published under its imprint.
The Baze University Press will also provide services such as manuscript development, academic editing, peer review coordination, copy editing, proofreading, indexing, typesetting, cover design, copyright administration, ISBN and ISSN registration, electronic and open-access publishing, digital archiving and journal management.
Other services will include the publication of conference proceedings, policy and technical reports, inaugural and public lectures, institutional histories and commissioned works, as well as translation, bibliographic and publishing consultancy services.
The press will also handle the marketing and distribution of scholarly works through digital and print platforms.
The university said the press would play a role in preserving its intellectual heritage by documenting major institutional milestones, research breakthroughs, public lectures and policy contributions.
It added that the initiative would support emerging scholars through mentorship in academic writing and publishing, while creating opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration among faculties.
The establishment of the press, according to the university, is also part of its broader drive towards internationalisation and academic distinction.
It said the initiative would complement its investment in research, postgraduate education, innovation and knowledge production, while positioning the university to contribute more significantly to scholarly discourse in Nigeria, Africa and beyond.
The university described the Baze University Press as more than a publishing imprint, saying it would institutionalise a culture of scholarship, intellectual leadership and academic excellence.
