The Bauchi State Government has warned beneficiaries of the Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) being distributed across the state against diverting or misusing the materials.
The government said anyone found diverting the nets would face appropriate sanctions.
The Chairman of the Bauchi State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis/Leprosy and Malaria (BACATMA), Dr. Adamu Umar Sambo, gave the warning during the official flag-off of the distribution of 4.8 million Insecticide-Treated Nets across the state.
The 2026 ITN Mass Distribution Campaign was flagged off at the Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre, Bauchi, on Saturday.
Sambo said logistics for the exercise had been completed, with 100 per cent of the nets already transported to 1,903 distribution points across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state.
He appealed to local government chairmen, security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure that the nets were not diverted and reached the intended beneficiaries.

“We want these nets to reach every person they are meant for. We are not giving people nets to go and sell, to use for fishing or as nursery shades on farms. We are giving these nets for utilisation to reduce malaria transmission,” he warned.
The chairman disclosed that BACATMA was collaborating with the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) to sustain monthly environmental sanitation as part of measures to prevent malaria.
Sambo also said the state ranked highest in the country in domestic resource mobilisation for tuberculosis control, noting that Bauchi had received national awards for the achievement for two consecutive years.
According to him, the integration of Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) with childhood tuberculosis screening had made Bauchi the leading state in childhood TB detection in the country.
He commended the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, and development partners for their support for the campaign.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam, said the state government had continued to prioritise improvement of the health sector through efficient and effective service delivery.
Dambam said reforms and interventions by the government and development partners had contributed to improvements in the state’s health sector.
He urged beneficiaries of the nets to use them according to the instructions to achieve the objective of reducing malaria transmission caused by mosquito bites.
Representatives of various development partners also reaffirmed their continued support for the government’s efforts to improve healthcare service delivery in the state.
