Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Akin Abayomi, has clarified that Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, has eight functional dialysis machines, contrary to an online claim that the facility has only one.
Abayomi made the clarification in a post on X on Sunday while sharing a video from an inspection of the hospital’s dialysis centre.
According to the commissioner, six of the machines are used for general dialysis patients, while the remaining two are reserved for patients living with HIV or hepatitis as part of infection prevention and control measures.
He said the centre begins dialysis sessions from as early as 6am and remains open until the last patient is attended to, with operations sometimes extending to midnight.
The commissioner added that the facility conducts up to 200 dialysis sessions each month and has a dedicated standby generator to support uninterrupted services.
He also noted that dialysis services are available at several other public health facilities across Lagos, including Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), General Hospital Lagos, General Hospital Gbagada, IDH Yaba and FMC Ebute Metta.
Abayomi said additional dialysis centres are also being developed across the state, stressing that the Lagos State Ministry of Health remains focused on providing healthcare services to residents.
The statement reads, “There is a claim going round online that Alimosho General Hospital has only one functional dialysis machine. This is false. Here are the facts as of today.

“The Dialysis Centre at Alimosho General Hospital, Igando has 8 dialysis machines, and all 8 are working. 6 serve our general dialysis patients every day, and 2 are dedicated to patients living with HIV or hepatitis, in line with infection prevention and control best practice.
“Sessions start as early as 6am, and the Centre stays open until the last patient is done, often till midnight, so no patient is turned back. We run up to 200 dialysis sessions every month, supported by a dedicated standby generator.
“Dialysis is also available at other public hospitals in Lagos, including LASUTH, General Hospital Lagos, General Hospital Gbagada, IDH Yaba and FMC Ebute Metta, with more centres coming on stream.
“The health of Lagosians is our priority at the Lagos State Ministry of Health.”
