The Wuraola Bamiduro Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable people and communities, has distributed sanitary pads to 650 girls in its bid to promote menstrual health and hygiene.
The foundation donated to Ilisan High School (Junior and Senior School) and also provided them with vital menstrual health education to empower the girls to take control of their health and well-being.
Founder of the Foundation, Mrs Wuraola Ayeni, stated that the organisation has imparted over 5,000 menstrual hygiene solutions to young girls in low-income communities across Edo, Oyo, Lagos, and Ogun States.
According to her, the foundation is committed to working with vulnerable people and communities to improve their lives through outreaches and solution-oriented intervention programmes.
“We have been championing the cause of menstrual hygiene and education through our “Pad a Girl Initiative.” Our mission is to make a positive impact, with a particular emphasis on the menstrual health of young females,” she added.
Mrs Ayeni urged the government and the general public to support the “Pad a Girl Initiative,” making sanitary kits available to all, especially girls in rural areas.
“Together, we can create a world where menstruation is no longer a barrier to education, opportunity, or success. So, we must join forces to empower our girls and promote menstrual hygiene for all,” she added.
The principal of Ilisan High School, Mrs Adekoya, appreciated the foundation’s gesture, stating, “Most of our girls are still using rags and tissue paper for their monthly flow, and we appreciate that the foundation considered our school for this vital programme.”
Esther Ilori, the school’s senior school student, said in a reaction, “We appreciate the lessons we learned, such as avoiding cold water and sugary foods during our menstrual flow and the importance of engaging in exercise.”
