The Federal Government has been told to prioritise a stable forex market and curb inflation in a bid to ensure lifesaving medicines remain accessible in Nigeria.
Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Vanguard Pharmacy, Mr Taofeek Odukoya, who made the call at the opening of the 11th outlet of Vanguard Pharmacy in Ibadan, said a synergy of all stakeholders was important in tackling these challenges that are inimical to safe, high-quality medications in the country.
Odukoya, whose pharmaceutical outfit integrates pharmacy, veterinary, supermarket, and bakery, said his establishment was committed to waging a relentless battle against counterfeit drugs and to providing smart health benefits for Nigerians to benefit from high-quality medicines.
“At Vanguard Pharmacy, we don’t just provide medicines; we empower our customers. That is why we have integrated the pharmacy, veterinary, supermarket, and bakery under one roof, a testimony to our core values of excellence, innovation, and customer-centric approach.
“We offer a wide range of affordable options to ensure your health never suffers due to cost or a compromised quality of medications.”
Brigadier General (Dr) Adekola Dada (rtd), a former Chief Medical Director of 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Yaba, said faking of medicines is getting worse because of Nigeria’s economic situation and urged for more pharmacies like Vanguard Pharmacy across the country that are committed to standards and professionalism.
“Drugs are important in patient care; their genuineness can make a difference between life and death. If a bad drug is given, a patient may not come out of the illness. So, it is a thing of joy that we can find a place like Vanguard Pharmacy in this environment to serve the people.”
Earlier, the National Chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, Mr Adewale Oladigbolu, said any society without pharmacies would shortchange itself of quality medicines, drug information, and reduction in harm from side effects of medicines.
“Pharmacy premises are not only for procuring medicines; you also procure health information. So the proliferation of pharmacies will help drive a good understanding of Nigeria’s health. With more health information, more people will leave healthier and better lives.”
