Swiss authorities have confirmed the safe arrival of Nigeria’s evacuated Ebola patient and her spouse in Switzerland, where the patient is receiving treatment at Geneva University Hospitals while her husband remains in isolation at University Hospital Zurich.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle, @muhammadpate, on Monday.
Pate said the Swiss authorities had confirmed that the patient and her spouse arrived safely in the country, following their medical evacuation from Nigeria.
He disclosed that the patient was receiving care at Geneva University Hospitals, while her spouse was being isolated at University Hospital Zurich.
According to the minister, Swiss Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider expressed her country’s appreciation for the care provided by Nigerian health professionals and the cooperation between the two countries and the World Health Organisation (WHO), which facilitated the evacuation.
Pate said the Swiss official conveyed the appreciation during a telephone conversation with him.
The minister commended the clinical and public health teams in Nigeria and Switzerland, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health and the WHO for their cooperation in managing the situation.
He also wished the patient a continued recovery.
