EKITI State governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the Federal Government’s National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode Project, describing it as a key driver of digital transformation and improved service delivery.
Oyebanji, represented by the state programme’s focal person, Mr Olusanmi Akintobi, spoke at a stakeholder engagement and inception workshop, on the macro ground-truthing of the national postcode project and the statewide Enterprise Addressing Management Systems in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, at the weekend.
He commended the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) for selecting Ekiti as one of the pioneer states for the initiative, noting that the project would address the limitations of the conventional postcode system, which often groups thousands of locations under a single code.
According to him, the new system will provide unique, machine-readable and human-readable codes for streets, buildings and settlements, making it easier to identify locations accurately and improving access to essential services.
He pledged the government’s support through institutional collaboration, investment in the Ekiti State Data Centre and an appropriate governance framework, adding that the project aligned with the administration’s digital economy and land administration reform agenda.
“Every digital service needs an address. The Digital Postcode will unlock innovation and position Ekiti as a hub for the digital economy,” he said.
Earlier, the Postmaster-General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST, Mrs Tola Odeyemi, represented by Mr Abdulwakil Jamiu, described the initiative as a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation.
Odeyemi said the nationwide rollout commenced on October 1, adding that Ekiti was selected as a pioneer state because of its record of educational advancement, intellectual development and progressive governance.
