This is what a Nigerian-born, UK-based vocal artiste, Oyindamola Ogunlaja is carving out, a niche that stretches far beyond the conventional boundaries of the stage, proving that true cultural influence is measured less by applause and more by the lives touched along the way.
Long before her international footprint, Ogunlaja’s artistic journey took root in Nigeria back in 2001 where she meticulously built her vocal foundation through structured choral formations, deep worship ministry, and high-energy live performances.
This rigorous early grounding shaped the distinctive alto voice and exceptional harmonic control that continue to captivate audiences today.
Her formative years in the country’s vibrant gospel music ecosystem saw her excel across prominent platforms, including the TREM Zone 4 Choir and Passion and Praise, a non-denominational gospel ministry renowned for its annual The Overflow music and prayer conference.
A defining moment in her early career arrived in 2017 when, as a member of the TREM Zone 4 Choir, she delivered a stellar performance at the Bishop Mike Okonkwo Choir Challenge before a formidable judging panel comprising industry heavyweights such as Ben Ogbeiwi, Dupe Ige Kachi, and Tim Godfrey.
Her résumé also boasts commanding appearances at massive gatherings like the Kingdom Life World Conference, where she performed before audiences exceeding 10,000 worshippers.
Beyond the confines of a single discipline, Ogunlaja’s creative identity is wonderfully expansive. Reflecting on her artistic evolution and the diverse mediums she explores, she shared, “Beyond music, I’m also an actor, and I enjoy dancing and writing.
“I write songs, short stories and sometimes short film ideas. Although I haven’t published my written work yet, I’ve always enjoyed exploring different ways of expressing myself.”
Embracing this multidisciplinary approach has been a journey of self-discovery. “Over time, I’ve become more confident about embracing all these sides of my creativity rather than putting myself in one box,” she noted.
“For me, creativity is about being curious, learning and finding different ways to tell a story.”
Since relocating to the United Kingdom in 2021, Ogunlaja has seamlessly integrated into the UK’s competitive gospel and community music scene, emerging as a vital cultural bridge.
She has anchored her artistry as an active member of the RCCG Power Connections Leeds choir and serves as a dynamic lead vocalist with Encounter Nights Leeds, alongside a prominent lead vocalist role with Sound of Jubilee during the Night of Answers and Wonders UK.
Addressing how she harnesses digital spaces to connect with a worldwide audience and showcase her diverse talents, Ogunlaja explained, “I use my social media platforms to share different sides of my creativity. I showcase my singing, including gospel and songs from different cultures, as well as my acting.”
For her, the digital realm is also a tool for cultural connection and empowerment. “Living in the UK, I particularly enjoy sharing music that keeps people connected to home and culture,” she said.
“I also want my platforms to encourage people, to inspire someone to believe in themselves, explore their talent and realise that they can do more.”
True to her philosophy that art must serve a higher human purpose, Ogunlaja’s offstage dedication is equally inspiring.
Through her active work in the children’s and teens’ department at RCCG Power Connections Leeds, she directly mentors over a hundred young minds, offering vital musical guidance, vocal support, and confidence-building training.
Her immense contributions to the creative sector were duly acknowledged in 2025 when she clinched the prestigious BEFFTA Star Award, cementing her status as an independent force in international entertainment.
Looking ahead to the next chapter of her career and the footprint she wishes to leave, Ogunlaja remains remarkably grounded in her true purpose.
Speaking on her ultimate aspiration, she reflected, “In five years, I want my legacy to be about people, not just performances. I want someone to be able to say, ‘Thank God I met Oyindamola.
She helped me overcome my fears, build my confidence and believe in myself.’ Whether through singing, mentoring, training or simply encouragement, I want to have made a meaningful difference in people’s lives. And I hope that while I’m impacting others, I will also continue learning and becoming a better artiste and person myself.”
As she continues to bridge African gospel traditions with Britain’s diverse multicultural landscape, Oyindamola Ogunlaja stands as a Nigerian export, a globally relevant stakeholder proving that true entertainment greatness lies in uplifting the next generation.
