The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) at Yobe State University (YSU) have threatened to embark on strike over the failure of the university management to implement agreed salary adjustments for non-teaching staff.
The Chairman of SSANU, YSU Branch, and Chairman of the Joint Action Committee (JAC), Comrade Ibrahim Liman, disclosed this on Monday on behalf of the two unions.
Liman said the unions had concluded plans to withdraw their services if the management failed to implement the agreed salary adjustments.
He expressed displeasure over what he described as unequal treatment of university employees, noting that while teaching staff had received their corresponding benefits, non-teaching staff were still awaiting payment.
According to him, the situation was unfair, considering the critical roles non-teaching staff play in the administration and day-to-day operations of the university.
“The planned action was a collective decision of the two unions under the JAC, and we would not hesitate to embark on strike if our demands remain unmet,” Liman said.
He called for urgent intervention to ensure equitable treatment of all categories of workers in the university system.
Liman cautioned that failure to resolve the dispute could disrupt administrative and technical services at the institution.
This is coming amid the ongoing implementation of the 2026 salary agreements between the government and university-based unions.
The university management had not responded to enquiries at the time this report was filed.
