Women on the childbearing age in Jigawa are reportedly queuing up in large numbers across primary healthcare facilities to access contraceptives as the demand of Family Planning Commodities rises.
However, checks by the Tribune Online shows that the shortage of commodities is hindering the child spacing campaign in the state.
Report from the state indicated that women in the some of the rural and urban areas were rushing to access family planning services, amidst shortage of the contraceptives.
Investigation conducted by Online Tribune in the state revealed that the women were getting full support of their husbands and practicing the family planning aim at control their children in order to save cost of life as a result of present hardship.
Speaking to Tribune Online in Kiyawa comprehensive health center, Mrs Hauwa Hamisu Kiyawa, a nurse and Family Planning service provider said “that women in the area have been enlightened about the use of contraceptives and the need to space their children for their well being”.
Mrs Hauwa Hamisu disclosed that “some of the women usually come with their husbands to access the services on health grounds and other reasons related to economic hardship and other family issues”.
According to her, “Its been over two months since we received consignment and its been exhausted due to the high number of users.” She revealed.
She however, explained that when she was posted to the facility in 2022, there was a large volume of unutilised family planning commodities because the users weren’t fully enlightened.
“So we embarked on serious health talks during ante-natal clinics with the women and now they have fully accepted the realities of family planning.” She added.
Mrs Hamisu further appealed to the government and donor agencies that were supplying the commodities to the women free of charge, to continue helping out because the demand is extremely high.
Some of the women at the facility who came for the services, confirmed that they have been following up on the supply of the commodities at the facility for a while now.
Malama Hafsatu Musa, a mother of three children, said she has been coming to the clinic to check if the commodities have been supplied.
Also, Malama Karima Ismaila a mother of two children, said she has been visiting to remove a implant which she accepted about a year ago when she gave birth and had complications.
The Officer in charge of the facility, Mr Sadiq Garba, confirmed that the women of the area have been trooping with their husbands to access the services.
He said that since people have been enlightened, there is need to provide the commodities as they were coming in bulk some years back.
