The provost, Ajorosun College of Health Technology, Ibadan, Dr Niyi Odedele has charged matriculating students of the institution on playing critical roles in shaping the future of healthcare services in the country.
He said this on Thursday during a combined matriculation held for the 1st four sets of the institution.
Odedele who is also the founder of the institution urged the newly matriculated students of the institution urged the students to be diligent in their studies and aswell take advantage of the resources available for them .
He added that the institution was birth out of his inspiration and passion for the health of Nigerians.
“This great vision was birthed out of my inspiration and passion for the health of the grassroot as a cell to our larger societies , as we all know the chances and privileges by 65% of our secondary school leavers in gaining admission into tertiary institutions to pursue their dream courses are so low , indirectly cutting off the glorious dreams of precious children
“Dear matriculating students, it is a day of new beginnings , fresh opportunities and limitless possibilities. As you begin this new chapter, I encourage you to be bold , curious and open-minded
“As you begin this new chapter in your academic pursuit, I urge you to remember that you are not just students but also ambassadors of this institution.You have a responsibility to uphold the values and principles that this college holds
“As you matriculate today, I charge you to be focused, diligent and committed to your studies .Take advantage of the opportunities available to you.Remember that your time here is not just about academics but also about personal growth and development
Also speaking, the registrar of the institution, Mrs Elizabeth Awojobi , stated that the institution was established to tackle the growing challenges of quackery in community health, nursing and midwifery
Awojobi lamented that lives were lost or put at risk due to the activities of unqualified practitioners who lack the requisite training and ethical grounding to provide safe and effective healthcare.
She further stressed that the institution was established to bridge gaps by producing well trained, competent and compassionate health professionals who will deliver excellent health care services to the society.
She said “It is with great joy and a deep sense of responsibility that I stand before you today as the pioneer registrar of Ajorosun College of Health Technology. This historic occasion marks the beginning of a journey that will shape the future of healthcare delivery in our communities.
“Matriculation is not just a ceremony, it is a rite of passage, a commitment to excellence and a solemn pledge to uphold the values of professionalism , competence and ethical service in the health sector.Today as we formally induct our first set of students, we celebrate not just their academic aspirations but also the noble vision that led to the establishment of this institution
