The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has pledged to sustain the existing relationship between the state government and the Muslim community if elected governor in the 2027 governorship election.
Adekanmbi made the pledge at the Hijrah 1448/2026 Luncheon organised for members of the Muslim community in Oyo State, where he appeared alongside his running mate, Engr. Muftau Open Salawu.
The APM candidate said his administration, if given the mandate, would build on what he described as the positive relationship established between the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde and the Muslim community.

He said the relationship between government and religious communities should not be disrupted by political transitions, stressing that continuity in policies that promote inclusion, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence remained important to the development of the state.
Adekanmbi commended members of the Muslim community for their support and goodwill towards the present administration, saying their contributions to the peace and development of Oyo should be recognised.
He also praised Governor Makinde for consistently identifying with the Muslim community through the annual Hijrah celebration throughout his tenure.
According to him, the governor’s participation in the Hijrah programme demonstrated the importance of maintaining regular engagement between government and faith-based communities.
Adekanmbi said, “If elected governor, we will continue from where Governor Seyi Makinde stops. We will sustain the relationship with the Muslim community and ensure that you continue to have the attention and support of government.
“We believe that government belongs to everyone, irrespective of religion or social background. We will run an administration that accommodates everybody and respects all religious communities.”
He said the 2027 election should not be viewed solely as a contest for political power but as an opportunity for the people to decide the direction of governance and development in the state.
The APM candidate therefore appealed to the Muslim community to continue to support and cooperate with the government, saying such partnership would be necessary to maintain peace and accelerate development in Oyo State.
He further assured that his administration would give priority to an inclusive governance structure in which religious and social groups would have opportunities to contribute to policymaking and development.
The event, which brought together members of the Muslim community and political stakeholders, also provided an opportunity for Adekanmbi and his running mate to further present their political message ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
