The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has described Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the August 15 governorship election in Osun as a reflection of the popular will of the people.
CUPP said the outcome of the election reaffirmed the constitutional right of citizens to freely choose their leaders through the ballot.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Agu Diamond Bryan, the coalition described Adeleke’s re-election not merely as a political victory, but as a triumph for constitutional democracy, popular sovereignty, electoral legitimacy, democratic participation and the rule of law.

“It demonstrates that democratic institutions and electoral processes remain vital instruments for the peaceful transfer and renewal of political mandates,” he said.
The coalition congratulated Adeleke on his re-election, commending his resilience, courage and commitment to democratic values throughout the campaign and electioneering period.
CUPP urged the governor to regard his renewed mandate as a responsibility to deepen democratic consolidation and constitutional governance in Osun State.
It called on him to strengthen democratic institutions, promote accountability, uphold electoral integrity and govern with inclusiveness, fairness and respect for all citizens.
The coalition also urged Adeleke to promote political tolerance, respect for dissent, constructive opposition, peaceful political competition and civility.
According to CUPP, democracy is strengthened when opposing viewpoints are respected, and political differences are resolved through dialogue rather than confrontation.
The coalition therefore called on Adeleke to embrace inclusive political discourse, consensus-building, accommodation and democratic restraint, ensuring that citizens, regardless of political affiliation, feel represented and respected by his administration.
CUPP also commended the people of Osun State for exercising their franchise and participating in the electoral process, stressing that their choice should be respected as an expression of popular sovereignty.
“As Governor Adeleke begins his renewed mandate, CUPP urges him to unite the people, consolidate the gains of his administration and deliver good governance, development and accountable leadership to all,” Bryan said.
The coalition said it viewed Adeleke’s victory as a triumph of democratic culture and called for the continued protection of democratic norms, institutions and values in Osun and Nigeria.
