The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa, has disclosed that the party is open to forming political alliances with other parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, both in Kano State and at the national level.
According to him, the party is currently concentrating on consolidating its structures and expanding its support base across the state and the country, while remaining receptive to strategic political alignments.
“We are open to alignment with other political parties ahead of the 2027 elections, both at the state and national levels. Politics is about interest, consultation and building consensus, so we are ready to work with others where necessary,” he said.
Doguwa noted that political cooperation remains a legitimate strategy in democratic politics, stressing that the NNPP would not hesitate to engage with other parties if such arrangements would benefit its members and supporters.
The NNPP chairman, however, dismissed a rival faction within the party, describing it as illegitimate and accusing its leader, Abiya, of working in the interest of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Making this known in an interview, Doguwa said the NNPP was prepared to collaborate with like-minded political groups where such partnerships would advance the party’s political interests and strengthen its electoral prospects.
He alleged that the group was being used to create confusion within the NNPP and undermine the party’s influence in Kano State.

“That faction is not part of us. As far as we are concerned, they do not represent the NNPP.
We know what they are doing and who they are working for,” Doguwa stated.
He further claimed that the recognised leadership of the NNPP in Kano remained united and firmly in control of the party’s affairs despite recent internal disagreements and defections.
“He is working for the APC. That is the truth. We know those behind the moves, and we are not distracted by them,” he added.
Expressing confidence in the party’s future, Doguwa maintained that the NNPP remains a formidable political force in Kano and would continue consultations with stakeholders as part of efforts to reposition and strengthen the party ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The remarks come amid growing political realignments and consultations among parties as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections.
