A member of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council Women Mobilisation Wing, Gloria Akobundu, has declared that Nigeria is on the path to renewed greatness, urging women across the country to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Akobundu spoke in Abuja at the APC Women Stakeholders’ Mobilisation and Empowerment Pre-Inaugural Summit convened by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, according to a statement she issued on Tuesday.
The event also witnessed the reported collapse of more than 500 women support groups from across the six geopolitical zones into the APC Presidential Campaign Council Women Wing, with the groups endorsing Tinubu for a second term.
The groups, according to the organisers, include independent women support organisations such as the Torch Bearers and other grassroots mobilisation platforms.
Akobundu, who is also Secretary of the APC PCC Faith-Based Mobilisation (Christians), said the support for Tinubu was necessary to sustain what she described as ongoing reforms by the administration.
She urged women voters, particularly those in the South-East and other parts of the country, to support the APC in the 2027 elections.
“Nigeria is on the path of renewed greatness. Continuity is essential if we are to complete the transformation that has begun. I urge women voters everywhere to ensure the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the consolidation of the good works already set in motion,” Akobundu added.
The summit was convened as part of the ruling party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections and brought together APC women leaders, First Ladies of APC-controlled states, state women leaders, faith-based mobilisers and grassroots organisers.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady said the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda 2.0, themed “From Reforms to Prosperity”, had moved beyond policy declarations to what she described as measurable changes in the economy and social sector.
“Our economy is stabilising. Inflation is coming down. Our foreign reserves are growing. Investors are returning to Nigeria. Our farmers are getting more support,” the First Lady said.
She also cited the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as one of the administration’s interventions, noting that university students were now able to access student loans through the scheme.
The First Lady urged the women to return to their respective states and communities to mobilise support for the President.
“Tell everyone as you go back to your various states that you have a leader who is bold enough to take difficult decisions in the beginning. He is a leader who can be trusted to lead us into prosperity,” she said.
She further declared that the various independent women support groups would operate under a unified APC campaign structure ahead of the election.
“What you will see on the ballot box is APC. We’re here to promote APC, nothing less. From Presidency, governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly, that is what we are here for,” she stated.
She also disclosed plans for six zonal mega rallies that would culminate in a grand rally in Abuja as part of the mobilisation campaign.
The First Lady thanked the women for their support for the President, saying, “Thank you for standing by him, thank you for believing in the Renewed Hope Agenda. Thank you for your determination to vote for Mr President for a second term.”
The summit also featured the distribution of livelihood support items to women, including tricycles, sewing machines, refrigerators and agricultural implements.
Akobundu urged the beneficiaries to use the items to improve their livelihoods and support their families.
“These items are not mere gifts; they are instruments of economic liberation. I congratulate every woman who has received these tools today. Use them diligently, productively and purposefully so that your families, communities and the nation at large will feel the positive impact”, she said.
The mobilisation comes as political parties and support groups intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with women voters expected to remain a major constituency in presidential and down-ballot contests.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has continued preparations for the 2027 elections, while parties are expected to intensify grassroots mobilisation as the electoral cycle progresses.
At the Abuja summit, however, the APC women leaders maintained that their immediate task was to consolidate the party’s support base and take the message of the administration’s policies to communities across the country.
