Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has assented to five key bills into law, aimed at enhancing the state’s justice system, education, healthcare, water management, and transportation.
The Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Nasiru Mua’zu, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Mairo Mohammed Mann, made this disclosure during a press briefing at Government House, Minna.
Mua’zu stated that the newly enacted laws include a Penal Code Law for the state, designed to penalise crimes established under its provisions and other related matters. He described the Penal Code Law as an innovation aligned with the administration of criminal justice in the state.
Additionally, the governor approved a law repealing the Niger State College of Education Law, 2011, and re-enacting the Niger State College of Education Minna (Re-establishment) Law, renaming the institution as Dr Umaru Sanda Ahmadu College of Education, Minna.
Another law signed by the governor provides for the establishment of an agency responsible for registering and regulating private health facilities across Niger State.
Further legislations include a law to establish the Niger State Water User Association, 2025, aimed at regulating water sources and ensuring their safety, and a law to create the Niger State Rail-Line Corporation for transportation development.
The Commissioner stated that the governor’s decision to enact these laws reflects his commitment to improving the lives of Niger State residents. He urged all stakeholders to embrace the new laws for maximum impact on the state’s development.
