The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State has accused an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of producing different reports on its governorship primary election, which the party claims contain contradictory information about its candidates.
The party made the allegations in a petition dated 16 October 2026 against Hauwa Buhari Buhari, Head of the Department of Election and Party Monitoring at INEC’s Kano office.
The complaint was submitted through the party’s lawyers, Tahir Chambers, and addressed to the INEC chairman through the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano State.
In the petition, the NDC alleged that the official had issued and signed several versions of the report on its governorship primary, with significant differences in their contents.
The party claimed that “some of the documents named people who were neither its candidates nor participants in the primary election, while leaving out individuals it said were validly nominated to represent it.”
The NDC also expressed concern that the disputed reports were being circulated and used by different individuals in court cases involving the party.
According to the complaint, another major problem with the documents was their failure to indicate the date on which the party conducted its Kano State governorship primary.
The party asked INEC to take note of the alleged inconsistencies in the reports. However, the portion of the petition made available did not clearly specify all the actions the NDC wanted the commission to take.
The allegations have not been independently verified. INEC and the official named in the complaint had not responded to the claims in the document available at the time of reporting.
