Oyo State Governor, ’Seyi Makinde, on Thursday commissioned a newly reconstructed two-kilometre road, a modern Fire Service Building and an ultramodern trailer park with shops at the Bodija International Market, declaring that the projects demonstrate the capacity of local government councils in the state to effectively deliver development at the grassroots.
The newly completed trailer park was named after renowned Ibadan warlord, Balogun Oderinlo, in recognition of his contributions and sacrifices for Yorubaland.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony in Ibadan North Local Government Area, Governor Makinde said the projects were evidence that local government administration in Oyo State was working efficiently without undue interference.
“This is another proof that our local government administrators are effective and are delivering on their constitutional responsibilities. These projects show that when the right environment is provided, local governments can execute impactful projects that improve the lives of the people,” the governor said.
He noted that the road, fire service building and trailer park would enhance commercial activities, improve ease of doing business and strengthen the state’s economy.
According to him, his administration remains committed to executing projects that directly impact livelihoods, stimulate economic growth and safeguard lives and property.
Makinde also urged traders and residents to continue supporting his administration and its development agenda.
“I want to appreciate all the traders and the good people of Oyo State for their unwavering support. I urge you to continue to support leaders and candidates who are committed to delivering the dividends of democracy so that development can continue beyond this administration,” he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Seun Olufade, described the projects as the fulfilment of a promise made to traders and residents of the Bodija International Market about a year ago.
Olufade thanked Governor Makinde for creating an enabling environment that allowed the council to execute the projects successfully.
“Your Excellency’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to development have created the atmosphere for local governments to deliver meaningful projects. Today, we are fulfilling the promise we made to the people of Bodija International Market,” he said.
He explained that the projects were designed to ease the movement of goods and people, boost commercial activities and improve emergency response within one of Nigeria’s largest markets.
The council chairman also commended market leaders, traders, donors and residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the construction period.
“I urge everyone to take ownership of these facilities by protecting and maintaining them so they can continue to serve generations yet unborn,” he added.
In separate goodwill messages, the Babaloja of Bodija International Market, Alhaji Aderemi Jimoh; the Chairman of the market, Alhaji Dauda Adegbenro; and the Otun Iyaloja, Alhaja R. O. Oyebamiji, commended Governor Makinde and the Ibadan North Local Government for delivering the projects, describing them as a major boost to commercial activities and safety within the market.
The commissioning ceremony attracted traditional rulers, political office holders, religious leaders, security agencies, market executives, traders and members of the Balogun Oderinlo family, who lauded the state government and the local council for the landmark infrastructure.
