Meta, the parent company for Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, has informed advertisers that it will begin applying new location-based fees on advertisements delivered in selected countries from July 1, 2026.
In a notice sent to customers, Meta said the additional charges, which will cover Digital Services Taxes (DST) and other local regulatory costs imposed on the company, will apply to ads served in specific jurisdictions, regardless of where the advertiser’s business is located.
According to the company, the fees will be determined by the location of the audience receiving the advertisements and where ad impressions are delivered, rather than the advertiser’s country of operation.

“Location fees are additional charges that will apply to ads delivered in select jurisdictions to cover part of the costs associated with doing business in those jurisdictions,” the company stated.
Meta disclosed that the following fees will be added to advertisers’ spending after ads are delivered:
- Austria — 5%
- France — 3%
- Italy — 3%
- Spain — 3%
- Türkiye — 5%
- United Kingdom (UK) — 2%
The company noted that the list of affected jurisdictions and applicable rates may change over time.
The new charges are expected to affect advertisers whose campaigns target audiences in the listed countries, with the fees being applied based on where ad impressions occur rather than where the advertising account is based.
Meta said the location fees will take effect from July 1, 2026, for the affected advertising accounts.
