Public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has warned that lawmakers allegedly involved in the abuse of constituency projects will eventually face the consequences of their actions.
Shehu made the remarks in a post shared on his X account on Saturday night while reacting to reports that no fewer than 16 federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) received more than N205.96 billion for projects outside their statutory mandates in the 2026 Appropriation Act.
Reacting to the development, Shehu accused some members of the National Assembly of using constituency projects for personal gain.
He alleged that some lawmakers stash money in MDAs in the name of constituency projects, intimidate agency heads, and award contracts to companies linked to themselves, their family members or associates at inflated costs.
According to him, some of the projects are either poorly executed or abandoned.
Shehu warned that those allegedly involved would not escape the consequences of their actions.
“Painful lives and living await them for choosing to betray a trust they are reposed with or they snatched,” he wrote.
“They will last long to harvest in full measure, evil for evil, greed for greed, treachery for treachery.”
The commentator further claimed that the suffering allegedly caused by the misuse of public funds would eventually return to those responsible.
“In the manner their actions are subjecting and forcing millions into poverty, penury, pains and disease, in that same manner they shall experience poverty, pains, diseases, penury and degradation,” he said.
