The Lagos State Government has assisted a total of 6,280 indigent pregnant women with nutritional support under the Mother, Infant and Child Development (MICHD) programme, as part of a strategic effort to combat maternal and neonatal health challenges in the state.
The government also disclosed that 8,690 people have benefited from the “Sanwo-Olu Listens” Social Intervention Programme, which provides financial aid directly to indigent residents of Lagos.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative & Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, made this known on Thursday during the ministerial press briefing held in commemoration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s sixth year in office.
Speaking on the MICHD programme, which was initially launched in 2021 at Public Health Centres (PHCs), Dr. Afolabi stated that the initiative now holds at health districts across the state.
According to him, this expansion ensures that more expectant mothers are reached and have access to the nutritious food they need. He emphasized that the state government is not only supporting them but also securing the future of Lagos.
Regarding the “Sanwo-Olu Listens” Social Intervention Programme, Dr. Afolabi said the initiative had become a symbol of inclusive governance, restoring dignity and rekindling hope across the state with strong support from Governor Sanwo-Olu.

He noted that the governor has remained steadfast and committed to supporting the programme and revealed that verification is ongoing for a new set of beneficiaries, who will soon be invited to collect their cheques.
“Mr. Governor has supported this programme since its launch in 2020. So far, a total of 8,690 beneficiaries have received support. I can assure you that we are already conducting verification for the new set of beneficiaries, and in due time, they will be called to come for their cheques,” he said.
Speaking further, Dr. Afolabi disclosed that the state government, in its ongoing efforts to strengthen inclusive governance, is set to enhance the CitizensGate App with multilingual features to make it more accessible to residents.
He explained that the app, which is designed to bridge the communication gap between the government and Lagos residents, will soon support indigenous languages such as Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo, as well as French, alongside English.
This enhancement, he said, aims to make the platform more inclusive and accessible, catering to the multi-ethnic population of Lagos.
Additionally, Dr. Afolabi revealed plans to significantly increase the platform’s capacity, enabling more agencies to respond to citizens’ concerns faster and more efficiently. He announced that 20 additional Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) would be onboarded, bringing the total number of MDAs on the platform to 120.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, affirming that his office remains committed to fostering a politically aware, civically responsible, and harmonious society where every Lagos resident’s voice is heard.
