The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA) have suspended its 7-day warning strike effective from midnight, Thursday, 31st of October.
According to the unions, the suspension was in the spirit of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and general public interest.
JOHESU/AHPA in a communique issued at the end of the Expanded National Executive Council Emergency hybrid Meeting on Thursday, also resolved that the timeline of six (6) weeks given to the Federal Government to meet all her obligations contained in the MoU.
They also disclosed that an expanded National Executive Council Meeting shall be convened upon the expiration of the six (6) weeks’ deadlines to review development and take appropriate decisions.
They added that the indefinite strike action shall be the next option if the expanded NEC of JOHESU is not satisfied with the Federal Government responses to the implementation of her obligations contained in the MoU.
According to the statement, “NEC-in-Session appreciated all members for their active participation in the strike action. NEC urges them to sustain their commitment to the struggles for the actualisation of those demands before the Federal Government and for better working conditions and social justice in the health sector.”
The hybrid emergency meeting of the Expanded National Executive Council of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA) took place today, Thursday.
The expanded NEC comprises of the Presidents and General Secretaries of JOHESU affiliate unions and professional associations, National Executive Council (NEC) members of affiliate Unions and JOHESU chairmen and secretaries at the state and branch levels.
NEC-in-session received reports on the 7-day warning strike action embarked upon by members of JOHESU affiliate Unions on 00 hours, 26″ October, 2024 in health facilities across the Country.
NEC-in-session also received the report of conciliation meeting held between the JOHESU/AHPA National Team and Federal Government Team on Tuesday, 29 October, held for several hours at the Minister’s Conference Room, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
NEC was also briefed by the national leadership the outcome of the meeting held with the Honourable Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare on Wednesday, 30 October, 2024 at the Minister’s Conference Room, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Federal Secretariat, uja.
