Worried over the material and child mortality rate in JIgawa state, the state government in collaboration with CASCADE Nigeria commenced action to domesticate the National Maternal Perinatal Child Death Surveillance and Response (MPCDSR) and quality of care guidelines and tools.
Speaking shortly after the opening of a three-day workshop organized for healthcare delivery stakeholders in the state, the JIgawa state desk officer of the Maternal Perinatal Child Death Surveillance and Response (MPCDSR) committee in the state’s ministry of health, Dr Zubairu Usman said the aim of the project reports indicated that Nigeria is leading in the material and child death globally, “that reflects the rate in every state in the country.”
Usman explained that “the intention of the JIgawa state government now is to come off with adequate and sustainable measures to drastically reduce the menace at the community, the facility, local government areas and up to the tertiary levels of the state.”
He noted that “there is a national guideline set by the federal government which all state has to adopt, the aims of the meeting is to look at the policy, processes and procedures and look at how it would suit our (JIgawa) norms, culture and customs in curtailing the maternal mortality rate”.
“You see the guidelines applicable in the southern part of this country is different from the ones to be applied in north central or northwest. That is why we are here to work on the documents that will be properly and effectively implemented here.”
“The National Demographics Health Survey (NDHS) 2022 indicated that there is 714 maternal deaths in every 100,000 women in the state.
