The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Sokoto State, has announced October 9, 2026, as the commencement date for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards by registered voters in the state.
The commission urged eligible citizens to collect their PVCs at designated centres and rely only on official INEC channels for information concerning the electoral process.
INEC made this known in a statement issued on Thursday by its Public Affairs Officer, Hassan Sarki Gendane, as Nigeria marked its 66th Independence Anniversary.
The commission also called on citizens to maintain peace, respect the rule of law and participate actively and responsibly in the electoral process.

According to the statement, INEC remains committed to conducting elections in accordance with the law and ensuring that every vote is properly accounted for.
It urged voters to have confidence in the electoral process and stressed that citizens have the right to freely choose their preferred candidates.
The commission congratulated Nigerians on the Independence Anniversary and called for continued support for democratic institutions and the strengthening of democracy.
