Heat can be very disturbing and make one restless. Too much heat can change the skin and as well cause itching that can make scratched areas swell up.
According to the World Health Organization, heat is increasing because of climate change. The rapid rise of heat more than the average can affect the body’s ability to regulate temperature which can result in illnesses such as heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and heatstroke.
To make your environment conducive and the weather favourable for you; below seven ways you can stay cool in hot weather:
1. Regular cold bath or shower
When the heat starts becoming unbearable, you can have your bath as many times as you feel like. It doesn’t have to be just twice a day; it’s just to make you feel refreshed and not just have a good night’s rest but cool. You can go for a peppermint soap; I mean a soap that would make your body feel like you’re taking menthol.
2. Wet towel on your body
You can decide to put a small towel into cold water and use it to rob your head, neck, and part of your body. This will make your body cool down; and before you know it, you start feeling sleepy. To be double-sure your body will emain cool, after this exercise, you can take water frequently to make you more refreshed.
3. Make use of a fan
The heat period requires you to clean your fan thoroughly so it won’t blow dust or even heat back. You can have the fan very close to you after taking a shower; it would make you feel cool and more relaxed.
4. Keep your windows open
Always open your windows to allow natural ventilation to enter. This is another way to let go of the heat inside the house. There might not be as much breeze as expected because of the weather, but it would be better than the house being stuffy. In areas where there is direct sunlight in the house, you can just close your curtains or blinds so the house can remain cool.
5. Keep the Air Conditioner on
Put on your air conditioner to the brim for it to overpower the heat inside. Unless you start to feel uncomfortable, then you can reduce the degree. The air conditioner will completely protect you against the heat and helps you stay cool in hot weather. Yes, that’s if you do not want to feel heat at all.
6. Wear light materials
You surely know you can opt for simple wears instead. Yes, breathable materials will keep you cool throughout your night. Thick clothing will only make you sweat profusely and you won’t enjoy your sleep. After having a busy day, I doubt anyone likes to still have a restless night due to the heat. So, to have a heat-free night, let go of that precious but thick nightwear.
7. Change your light bulbs
Some light bulbs cause heat. Are you aware? If you have many around the house, you can reduce it or switch some off. If the heat is becoming unbearable you can devise a plan to ensure your house is heat-free by changing to energy-saving light bulbs instead of halogen light bulbs that generate a lot of heat.
