The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force has recorded another breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected car thief and the recovery of a Toyota Hilux stolen in the FCT and taken to Kaduna State through the swift response of operatives from the Maitama Division.
In a statement issued to journalists, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said: “On 20th June 2026 at approximately 1:45 p.m., the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Maitama Division, CSP Altine Daniel, received a distress call reporting the theft of a white Toyota Hilux, 2014 model, with Registration Number BWR 712 CV, from the Wuse II area of the FCT.
“The DPO immediately led a team to the scene, where the complainant reported that the vehicle had been parked at about 1:30 p.m. and was discovered missing about four minutes later, with an unknown person seen driving it away.

“Acting swiftly, all police formations and deployments along entry and exit routes in the FCT were alerted to conduct stop-and-search operations, with a mandate to intercept any attempt to take the stolen vehicle out of the FCT.
“With the aid of digital tracking technology, the vehicle was traced and recovered at Kubacha, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, at approximately 3:30 p.m. on the same day. One suspect was arrested in connection with the theft.
“The suspect and the recovered vehicle are in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify possible accomplices.”
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, urged residents to remain security-conscious and take proactive steps to protect their vehicles and valuables.
He advised vehicle owners to install functional tracking devices, avoid leaving valuables unattended in their vehicles, and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
In a related development, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP (Prof.) Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, on Friday received the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Training and Development (DTD) and representative of the North Central Geopolitical Zone, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, during an operational visit to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
The visit, held at the Command Headquarters, was attended by senior officers of the Command, community stakeholders from across the FCT, and officers and personnel of the FCT Police Command.
In his welcome address, CP Sanusi warmly received the Deputy Inspector-General of Police and commended the Inspector-General of Police for his commitment to strengthening policing through effective supervision and continuous operational assessment.
He highlighted the Command’s recent operational achievements, underscoring its commitment to professionalism, community partnership, and the implementation of the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM.
Addressing officers and personnel of the Command, DIG Mohammed said the visit was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to conduct an operational tour of all state commands under Zone 7.
He explained that the tour was designed to assess the prevailing security architecture, inspect operational systems, evaluate ongoing policing strategies, and make recommendations aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening policing policies across the zone.
The DIG charged officers and personnel of the FCT Police Command to remain civil, disciplined, and professional in the discharge of their duties while implementing the directives of the Inspector-General of Police in line with international best practices.
He stressed the importance of professionalism, respect for the rule of law, accountability, and sustained commitment to quality service delivery for all residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
Community stakeholders across the FCT commended the Inspector-General of Police for his continued efforts to strengthen policing nationwide and expressed appreciation for deploying the Deputy Inspector-General of Police on the operational assessment tour.
They noted that such engagements foster collaboration between the police and the communities they serve while providing an avenue for constructive dialogue on improving public safety and security.
The visit concluded with an interactive session between the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, officers of the Command, and community representatives, during which critical security concerns, operational challenges, and strategies for enhancing policing within the Federal Capital Territory were discussed. A group photograph was taken to commemorate the visit.
