The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has announced the commencement of the 2026 Promotion Evaluation/Interview Exercise for eligible officers on Salary Grade Levels 14, 15 and 16 across the Federal Civil Service.
The Head of Press and Public Relations of the FCSC, Ibraheem Zakariyya, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, noting that the circular on the promotion exercise was signed by the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof. Tunji Olaopa.
According to the statement, all Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are required to submit the promotion briefs of qualified officers who have attained the prescribed maturity period on their current grade levels and met all relevant conditions for promotion, in line with extant rules and regulations.
As part of measures to deepen transparency, credibility and merit in the promotion process, the Commission announced that the 2026 Directorate-Level Promotion Examination would be conducted through a Computer-Based Test (CBT).
“Candidates are therefore advised to prepare adequately and familiarise themselves with the new examination format,” the statement noted.

The Commission emphasised that only duly authenticated candidates presented through the appropriate channels by their respective MDAs would be accredited for the exercise.
It further warned that incomplete, false, inaccurate or late submissions, as well as non-compliance with stipulated guidelines, would lead to the disqualification of affected officers from participating in the promotion exercise.
According to the Commission, the evaluation will focus on candidates’ knowledge of the Civil Service, professional competence, and general awareness of government policies, regulations and administrative procedures.
Eligible officers are encouraged to study relevant public service documents, regulations and other prescribed reference materials.
The Commission also urged Permanent Secretaries and Accounting Officers to ensure the wide circulation of the circular among all concerned staff, including officers serving outside headquarters and in Nigerian missions abroad, for strict compliance with the guidelines and deadlines.
