A former Kano State Commissioner for Information, Internal Affairs, Youth, Sports and Culture, Comrade Muhammad Garba, has congratulated Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on his appointment and swearing-in as the state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs.
Garba, a former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), described the appointment as a well-deserved recognition of Bature’s professional experience, competence, and longstanding contributions to public communication.
In a congratulatory statement, the former commissioner also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he described as a thoughtful and commendable decision, saying it demonstrated the administration’s commitment to effective communication, public engagement, and information management.
He expressed confidence that the new commissioner would bring his wealth of experience in journalism, public relations, strategic communication, and media management to bear on his new responsibilities.
According to Garba, Bature’s impressive academic background and extensive professional experience, including engagements with international development partners and donor agencies, have equipped him with the necessary skills to manage government communication and improve public understanding of government policies and programmes.
He particularly highlighted Bature’s previous position as Director-General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, noting that his close working relationship with Governor Yusuf had given him a sound understanding of the administration’s vision, policy direction, and development priorities.
Garba observed that the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs occupies a strategic position in governance and requires leadership capable of understanding the media landscape, promoting transparency and accountability, and maintaining productive relationships with journalists and media organisations.
He expressed optimism that Bature’s appointment would strengthen the ministry’s institutional capacity, improve government-public relations, and enhance the communication of the administration’s policies, programmes, and achievements.
The former commissioner urged the new appointee to discharge his responsibilities with dedication, humility, and professionalism, while ensuring that the ministry remains accessible to the media and responsive to the information needs of Kano residents.
He also encouraged Bature to foster mutual respect and constructive engagement between the government and the media, stressing that credible information and effective communication are essential to building public trust and strengthening democratic governance.
Garba wished the new commissioner a successful and impactful tenure, expressing confidence that his experience and commitment would contribute significantly to the development of Kano State.
