Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister, Nyesom Wike has revealed that he spoke with the 2027 governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Rivers State, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, urging him not to run for the February election.
In a video currently making the rounds, the Minister, who described Dumo as his friend, said he had several told the NDC candidate to step aside for someone else, citing his age.
According to Wike, Dumo has contested for the governorship election more than eight times but failed, stating that he should consider sponsoring another person for the Rivers State top job.
“I don’t know the other people contesting in Rivers State, but Dumo has been my friend. I have told him several times, ‘Dumo, how many times will you contest?
“You are approaching 70 years old, and you have contested for governor of Rivers State more than eight times. Take your money and sponsor someone else,” Wike stated.
He expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress, APC, flagbearer, Kingsley Chinda, would emerge victorious in the forthcoming election.
In the video, the FCT Minister acknowledged that one of the leading contenders would eventually emerge winner but stressed that President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid remained the priority.
