The 2027 presidential candidate of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, Moses Adebisi, has said he remains committed to contesting in the 2027 elections despite disagreements over the leadership and organisation of the party.
Adebisi stated this in a statement on Thursday, in which he outlined his political journey and the circumstances that led him to join the party.
The politician said he had been building the Nigerian Liberty Movement since 2017, focusing on mobilising Nigerians and developing a new generation of political leaders, adding that his efforts eventually led him to join the DLA.
“We approached the Independent National Electoral Commission for recognition, but our efforts to secure certification were unsuccessful. We took the matter to court, but the Federal High Court ruled against us.
“Following the judgment, we held three days of intensive meetings and decided to explore other political parties that could provide a platform for us to present our solutions to Nigerians. That was how DLA came into the picture,” he said.
Adebisi explained that he joined the party following discussions with its leadership, adding that he expected the platform to provide an opportunity to present his political agenda to Nigerians.
However, he said differences emerged over the party’s leadership structure, internal organisation and the coordination of its presidential campaign.
He maintained that the Presidential Campaign Council should be constituted under his leadership as the party’s presidential candidate, with the involvement of the party leadership.
“At our last meeting, which included Memeh and two women, in the presence of my vice-presidential candidate, I made my position clear.
“I said that the only practical way forward was to constitute the Presidential Campaign Council under my leadership,” he said.
Adebisi said the disagreements had affected political coordination within the party and led to the departure of some members.
He nevertheless expressed confidence in his political agenda, which he described as the “Agenda of Total Liberation for the Nigerian People”.
“Despite everything that has happened, I am not deterred. I remain resolute in my commitment to the Agenda of Total Liberation for the Nigerian People,” he said.
He added, “My political journey is bigger than Memeh and DLA. My commitment is bigger than any political party. My responsibility is to the Nigerian people and the future we must secure together.”
Adebisi said his ambition was to promote human dignity, purposeful leadership and meaningful political participation, particularly among young Nigerians.
“I will not abandon the Nigerian people because of the failures of a political platform. I will not surrender the aspirations of millions of Nigerians because of the conduct of a few individuals,” he said.
He concluded by declaring his intention to remain in the 2027 presidential race, saying, “The struggle for liberty continues.”
Recall that the party had referred Adebisi to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Inspector-General of Police over alleged misconduct.
The National Chairman of the party, Samuel Memeh, in a statement on Tuesday, also announced the suspension of all presidential campaign activities and public appearances relating to Adebisi’s candidature pending the conclusion of its internal disciplinary process.
Memeh explained that the party had initiated disciplinary proceedings following concerns over a financial commitment allegedly made by the candidate before the substitution primary held on August 20, 2026.
When contacted by our correspondent on Tuesday, Adebisi denied allegations of financial impropriety, saying he had paid more than N90m to revive the party and support its political activities.
