The Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo, Taraba State, on Wednesday adjourned a suit challenging the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency until 15 July 2026 for hearing.
The presiding judge, Justice Mashkur Salisu, announced the adjournment following applications filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Hon. Prince Tafida Abas, the member representing Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, seeking leave to join the suit and defend the case against them.
Nigerian Tribune reports that Hon. Princess Leah Olusiyi Solomon had approached the court, challenging the conduct of the primary election that allegedly produced the incumbent House of Representatives member, Hon. Prince Tafida Abas, as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election.
According to Princess Solomon, the party’s primary election was not conducted in the constituency, and she prayed the court to nullify its outcome.
When the case came up for hearing, counsel for both the APC and Hon. Tafida Abas filed a motion seeking the court’s leave to join the suit and defend it.
Counsel for the plaintiff, Barr. Longs Lugnan Takdok of P.D. Pius and Associates, did not oppose the motion, citing the defendants’ constitutional right to defend the case against them.
“The matter was adjourned for hearing today, but, on coming to court, both the APC and Honourable Tafida Abas filed a motion, praying the court to allow them to join the case and defend the suit against them.
“We did not oppose the application because the motion was based on the constitutional right of the defendants to defend the suit.
“They have filed their defence. We will go through it, respond accordingly and proceed,” said Barr. Longs
