The Kaduna State Government has said it has taken proactive steps to control the outbreak of Avian Influenza (bird flu) in the state following the outbreak of the disease in some states across the country.
This was contained in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Murtala Muhammad Dabo, and made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Friday.
The statement noted that “the Kaduna State Government, under the leadership of Senator Uba Sani, is committed to protecting all agricultural investments in the state with the prompt release of funds to enhance biosecurity measures across the poultry value chain.”
Consequently, the statement averred that the state has taken the following steps to control its spread: engaging with all stakeholders in the poultry value chain and procuring disinfectants to decontaminate all live bird markets and targeted poultry farms in the state.
The statement also declared that the government would soon embark on the distribution of decontamination consumables and equipment to relevant stakeholders.
Additionally, it will conduct statewide weekly disinfection and decontamination of slaughter slabs and abattoirs in all local government areas of the state.
Other measures include media engagements to raise public awareness through various platforms across the state, as well as active surveillance at all entry points.
“The public is hereby advised to remain calm as the government, through the Department of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture, is taking all necessary measures to bring the situation under control.
