No fewer than 20 unconfirmed cases of mpox patients were isolated to curb the spread in Benue State.
Also, four cases have been confirmed out of which three have been treated and discharged while the fourth case was confirmed last Friday.
The State Epidemiologist, Dr Asema Msuega disclosed this to newsmen in Makurdi on Thursday.
Dr Msuega further said that the fourth patient is still in the isolation centre receiving treatment and responding well.
According to the state epidemiologist, some of the patients were out of isolation and added that it was not every case that were taken to hospital for isolation.
“We advised some to self-isolate at home just like we were doing during the outbreak of COVID-19. The patients are being treated at the isolation center of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH,” the epidemiologist said.
Dr Msuega stated that the confirmed cases were from two LGAs, Makurdi and Gwer West while the suspected cases were detected in five LGAs; Ushongo, Kastina-Ala, Gboko, Makurdi and Gwer West.
He said that the most recent was from Gwer East whose sample we have sent to the laboratory and awaiting the result before the end of this week.
While stating that the state had embarked on massive awareness campaigns to educate people about the disease and to imbibe basic prevention and control measures, such as; washing hands, and avoid unnecessary contact with people, especially suspected persons, Dr Msuega said that early detection and reporting of suspected case to the nearest health centres or hospital will help to curtail the disease.
