The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over alleged criminal conspiracy, threat to life and attempted kidnapping in T/Balewa Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were arrested following an anti-kidnapping operation launched after the command received credible intelligence from a concerned citizen.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the intelligence was received about 10 days before the suspects were arrested.
The police said a male resident of Machiyar Kuka Village had been receiving threatening phone calls from unknown persons demanding N1.5 million as ransom.
The callers allegedly threatened to kidnap and kill the resident if he failed to pay the ransom.
Following the report, detectives from the Bununu Division commenced covert operations to prevent the planned crime.

The operation led to the arrest of 25-year-old Sunusi Muhammad of Tallaran Village at about 1:30 a.m. on September 11, 2026, while he was allegedly attempting to collect the ransom.
During preliminary investigation and interrogation, the police said Muhammad mentioned his alleged accomplice, 20-year-old Idris Aliyu.
Acting on the information, operatives arrested Aliyu.
The command said both suspects had made voluntary confessions to the alleged crime.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the officers for their professionalism and prompt response.
He also appreciated the citizen whose timely information, according to the command, helped prevent the alleged kidnapping.
The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to proactive policing and urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities or threats to the nearest police station.
