Atlético Madrid Chief Executive Officer Miguel Ángel Gil Marín has criticised the advice surrounding Julián Álvarez’s professional career while reaffirming the club’s commitment to helping the Argentina forward reach his full potential.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on X on Friday, speaking to EFR, Gil said Atlético would continue to support and protect Álvarez as the club looks to keep him competing at the highest level in European football.
“We are going to help Julián Álvarez, and we are going to continue to take care of him so that he can give us his full potential, because we need him to continue competing among the greats of Europe,” Gil said.
The Atlético chief also suggested that Álvarez had not received the best guidance in recent months.
“We must understand that Julián has not had the best advisors about his professional career in recent months,” he said.
Gil’s comments come amid continued speculation over Álvarez’s future and interest from other major European clubs. However, the Atlético CEO made it clear that the Spanish club does not intend to allow outside pressure to influence its sporting decisions.
“We cannot allow other clubs to decide what we have to do, mark our sports strategy and disrespect us,” Gil said.
He also called for unity within Atlético, arguing that the club is strongest when its players, staff and supporters remain together.
“That is precisely what they are looking for: to divide us. It is clear that we are not as powerful as they are, but we have values,” he said. “We athletes are not going to allow them to contaminate us. Atleti is strong when we are all together.”
