A political group, the APC Youth Network West Africa, has announced plans to sponsor the return of 1,000 Nigerians living in South Africa to enable them to vote in the forthcoming presidential election.
The Director-General of the network, Olatunde Igbasan, disclosed this during a peace walk organised by the group in Cape Town, South Africa, according to a statement made available to our correspondent on Saturday.
According to the organisers, the proposed sponsorship is intended to assist eligible Nigerian voters who wish to return home to exercise their voting rights.
Details of the initiative, including eligibility requirements, travel arrangements and implementation timelines, are expected to be announced later by the network.
Igbasan, who sponsored the event, said young people had a significant role to play in shaping Nigeria’s political future, urging them to reject violence and embrace peaceful political participation.
The walk began at the Mandela Glasses sculpture, also known as Perceiving Freedom, a landmark associated with former South African President Nelson Mandela.
He called on Nigerian youths to pursue their aspirations through democratic processes, constructive dialogue and peaceful engagement.
Igbasan also urged Nigerians in South Africa to remain connected to developments at home and encourage their families and communities to make informed decisions during the election.
He expressed satisfaction with the turnout, commending participants for braving the unfavourable weather to show support for President Bola Tinubu and the network’s political objectives.
