The Agege Local Government Area in Lagos State has taken decisive steps to prevent the cholera outbreak, including the suspension of food vendors in schools within the area.
This move aims to ensure the safety of pupils and students by encouraging them to bring their own food to school.
Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, the council’s Chairman, revealed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
Egunjobi highlighted the council’s efforts in sensitizing market stakeholders and schools through radio campaigns to prevent the spread of cholera within the community.
He emphasized the importance of early detection and prevention measures to combat the disease.
To further ensure the well-being of children, schools were inspected to ensure they met health and environmental standards.
Market traders were also educated on the importance of environmental hygiene to prevent the spread of cholera.
