A gas tanker overturned in Lagos earlier today, causing significant disruption to traffic before being successfully recovered by emergency services.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:53 am, prompting distress calls to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
Upon arrival at the scene in Gbagada, responders found the Sino truck, carrying 34,000kg of gas, blocking approximately 85% of the road.
The driver reportedly lost control of the truck, which has the license plate T-18209LA, due to brake failure. There have been no known fatalities, despite the driver suffering minor injuries that required hospitalization nearby.
To protect the area and control traffic, LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team worked with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASTMA, and the Nigerian Police Force. The overturned tanker was securely raised and taken off the road using heavy-duty machinery.
The operation concluded successfully, with the tanker and truck being transferred to the LASTMA office in Oshodi. The road has now been reopened to vehicular traffic.
