The Police Command in Niger State has uncovered the lifeless body of a baby, suspected to be just a day old, in a farmland located in Tayi village, Minna.
According to SP Waisu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer, the GRA Police Division received a report on August 9th that the lifeless body of a newborn child had been found in the farmland. Upon receiving the information, police operatives responded to the scene and enlisted the assistance of welfare officials from the Chanchaga Local Government Area.
The welfare officials, in turn, brought in a medical practitioner to examine the infant’s body. Tragically, the medical professional confirmed that the baby had already succumbed to the harsh conditions.
A resident of the area, who chose to remain anonymous, provided a possible explanation for the heartbreaking incident. The source suggested that the baby may have been abandoned by a woman who had become pregnant out of wedlock. The severe exposure to the elements, the resident believes, ultimately led to the infant’s untimely demise.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter, working closely with the local community to apprehend the person responsible for this heinous act.
